The lead person at the Aotearoa, is the director of language at the University there. He was very impressed with the kids. He said that ten years ago only 2% of people in New Zealand were first language speakers. They have put new programs in their schools and now 20% are first language speakers. He had our guide bring our group back to be part of a ceremony in front of a crowd of several hundred people. We were the visiting tribe being accepted by the local tribe. A very special time for our kids.
